8 Reasons 75% of Businesses Put Inbound Marketing Solutions First

Unless you’ve just crawled out from under a rock, you know that the world of marketing is changing, and that more and more businesses are turning to inbound marketing solutions and tactics to generate leads and drive revenue.

In fact, according to the 2015 State of Inbound report from HubSpot, more than 75 percent of companies are placing a priority on inbound and content marketing. Why?

Here’s a countdown of reasons inbound works.

1. According to the Pew Research Center, 87 percent of American adults use the internet. For young adults, those with high levels of education and higher-income households, “internet penetration is at full saturation levels,” the organization says.

Why wouldn’t you want to reach out to that group? Especially when traditional advertising media such as newspapers are seeing declining numbers. (In a 2012 survey, only 23 percent reported having read a print newspaper the previous day.) (Click to Tweet)

2. As of 2015, 64 percent of American adults own a smartphone, with 15 percent of those ages 18-29 relying almost exclusively on their smartphones for all online access. What that means for you: Make sure your website and emails are optimized for mobile. More about smartphone ownership and usage.

3. With all of those people online, either from a home computer or the smartphone in their pocket, where do you think they find information about products? Bingo. According to Retailing Today, 81 percent of consumers research products online before making major purchases.

4. Google processes more than 40,000 search queries every second - that means close to 100,000 searches in the time it took you to read this sentence. Need a visual? Watch this ticker roll — it moves faster than the ticker tracking the US government deficit! Surely some of the searches could be by people looking for the solutions you offer. (Click to Tweet)

5. Global Web Index found in 2014 that Americans spend more than six hours online each day, with 28 percent of that time spent on social media. Another 13 percent of the time is spent on microblogs. Your customers are online and on social media - you should be, too.

6. In a 2014 study, Moz found that more than 70 percent of clicks on search results went to an organic Page 1 link. This is why SEO matters—paid ads and later pages just don’t get the same click-through rate as you get for being in the top results for your chosen keywords.

7. Of nearly 4,000 respondents in the State of Inbound surveys, representing companies of all sizes, including those who primarily utilize outbound marketing, more than 30 percent name paid print, outdoor and broadcast advertising as the most overrated marketing tactic, with another 12 percent saying paid online (PPC, social media, ads) was the most overrated.

8. The 2015 State of Inbound surveys also found that companies are three times as likely to see a higher ROI on inbound marketing campaigns than outbound. In other words: inbound marketing solutions yield greater returns for lower cost. (Click to Tweet)
