Social Media Marketing Tip: Image Formatting Matters

Social Media Marketing Tip_ Image Formatting Matters

If you’ve taken the time to create a great social media image — whether it is a beautiful photo of your facility or a meme meant to make your followers stop and think (or giggle) — the last thing you want to have happen is for parts of the image to be hidden when it is displayed in your followers’ news feeds.

Properly formatting images for each social media channel you use — Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn and others — takes time because each has their own specifications. But those few extra minutes may mean the difference between an image that connects and is shared and one that leaves a bad impression as followers simply scroll by.

Here are the basics for Facebook, which is the most-used social media channel in America:

  • Cover photo: 851 px wide by 315 px tall

  • Profile image: 180 px wide by 180 px tall

  • Highlighted image: 1200 px wide by 717 px tall

  • Shared image: 1200 px wide by 630 px tall

  • Shared link thumbnail image: 1200 px wide by 627 px tall

You’ll find other specifications in this infographic published previously to the Inbound Accelerator, which is filled with tips for maximizing your social media presence. Check out the complete list of social media-related blog posts here.
