Social Media Marketing Tip: Promote Your Business Blog Posts

Social Media Marketing Tip Promote Your Best Blog Posts

Content is the key to using social media in your marketing mix. And if you are already writing a business blog, that means you are one step ahead, because you have a ready-made source of content for your social media efforts.

Social media is one of the best ways to promote your business blog posts. In fact, one of the steps we take whenever writing a blog post is to create the social media updates promoting the post at the same time. We write five different posts for each of the three main social media platforms we use: LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, along with text to accompany a Pinterest link and a Google+ post.

Then we schedule those updates for the days and weeks ahead—one for each platform on the same day the post is published, and the others following a few days apart up to several months out.

But don’t think it has to stop there. Remember that social media has a short half-life — and once those updates fall from the top of the newsfeed, your audience won’t see them again (and may have missed them the first time around).

Here's a social media marketing tip: Go back to your archives and identify some of your best blog posts from the past— those that generated the most traffic, the most leads and the most leads that converted into sales — and give them new life with another round of promotion on social media. If it has been a few months or a couple of years, chances are you have new followers who may have missed those blog posts the first time around.

Now you’ve addressed two challenges at once: content for your social media marketing AND promotion for your business blog.

If you aren’t already using social media to drive traffic to your website, rather than simply building brand awareness on the social media platforms themselves, now is the time to change that approach.
