Social Media Marketing: Manners Matter, Too

Written by Kristin Jones | March 21,2018

We all know that different social situations demand different etiquette—after all, it may be just fine to open your best friend’s fridge and help yourself to a beverage, but you wouldn’t do the same thing on your first visit to the parents of a new significant other.

Social media platforms also have different etiquette rules.

Hashtags are expected — up to 11 of them, even — on Instagram. On Facebook, stick with just one per post. On a Facebook business page, refer to your brand in second person, but your LinkedIn profile should be listed in first person.

Tollfree Forwarding and Gryffin Media offer more specific rules for putting your best foot forward on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and Pinterest in the infographic below.

Are you making any of the social media etiquette errors mentioned? Once you’ve correct those, consider your overall social media marketing strategy, and how it fits in with the rest of your inbound marketing. Are you making these additional mistakes:

  • Failing to link back to your website and blog?

  • Not using CTAs to promote your inbound offers?

  • Failing to track social media results?
