How to Make a Good Impression in Your New Marketing Job

How to Make a Good Impression in Your New Marketing Job

Whenever someone starts a new job, the immediate inclination is to “prove” that the company made a good choice. But it is important to fight that instinct to show off everything you know in the first few days.

Katie Burke, director of talent and culture at HubSpot, is quoted in our ebook Your First 100 Days In a New Marketing Job recommending the opposite approach.

“From my perspective, your role for your first 100 days is to show people you’re an incredible learner,” she said. “You have a front seat and fresh eyes for the business so listen, learn, and take a lot of notes.”

Burke says that among the first steps should be meeting your team, with a few small chats over lunch or coffee if possible, and making yourself completely fluent and comfortable with the hardware, software and systems your department uses.

Our advice: Spend more time listening than talking. Learn as much as you can. And then you will be ready to tackle your first projects with confidence, not bravado.

That basically covers the first two to three weeks. Find more specific advice on putting your talents and skills to use once you have your feet on the ground by downloading Your First 100 Days In a New Marketing Job. This free ebook has planning templates, step-by-step schedules and more.
