Do’s and Don’ts of Choosing a Business Name

It is only one decision of many when you bring a new company, brand or product to market, but choosing a business name is a critical step.

What makes a good name? And what should you avoid?

This infographic originally published by Webs.com, and shared by many others all over the web (20 million Google image search results, hundreds of them from Pinterest, are evidence of how far your own content could spread), provides some basic guidelines to get you started:

  •  Make it easy to pronounce.

  • Stay away from foreign words.

  • Avoid initials.

  • Consider using relevant terms or coining a new word.

Do you want to take a more objective approach? Our Brand & Campaign Name Scorecard assigns point values to nine different scoring categories. Work through the scorecard as a group to pinpoint the top name in your list of options.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rules. How does your current company, brand or campaign name stack up?
