Social Media Marketing Tip: When To Post To Instagram

jones_blogimageheader_march16

In social media marketing, timing is essential. With more than 100 million new Instagram photos and videos posted on the site each day, getting your content in front of your target market means fighting for eyes of a busy audience. If you aren’t there when they are, your hard work to create great content falls flat.

So how do you know when to post?

According to SproutSocial, in general your best bet is midday mid-week, with the most consistent engagement occurring between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Sunday tends to receive the least amount of engagement.

There are some additional times that generate high engagement for certain sectors.

  • Consumer goods see an additional high engagement window Saturday mornings.

  • Media and video offerings get a boost through Thursday evenings, and into Friday morning, with 9 a.m. Fridays showing the highest engagement.

  • Education users see a spike on Saturdays at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

  • Non-profits can see increased engagement Mondays 2-3 p.m.

  • Tech industry pages are more likely to gain traction in the early morning hour (6-10 a.m.) than other sectors, especially on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Of course, your specific results may vary. You could be like the friend that HubSpot writer Clifford Chi mentions in his Instagram timing blog post and carefully track your own results to find that sweet spot that best fits your company, industry and audience.

Knowing when to post is just one piece of the puzzle. Knowing WHAT to post is another. And having the time to both create and schedule your social media? Well, that is just one more thing on a small business owner’s to-do list. But we may have the solution. Schedule a call with me to learn about how we may be able to help.
